The PGCE Secondary Chemistry (Welsh Medium) at Bangor University is designed to provide you with a deep understanding of how children and adolescents learn, equipping you with the skills and knowledge needed to develop as a creative and innovative chemistry teacher. Associate Teachers will explore and analyse the principles of the new science curriculum, enabling them to become effective practitioners with a sound understanding of theory-based pedagogy. The programme also offers short placements in secondary and special schools, as well as outdoor education centres, to ensure you gain enhanced experience specific to your individual interests.

Curriculum and Modules
The PGCE Secondary Chemistry (Welsh Medium) curriculum integrates university-based study with extensive school-based placements. You will critically evaluate a wide range of science pedagogies in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, developing the knowledge and skills to provide effective learning experiences across educational contexts.
Explore and analyse the principles of the new Welsh science curriculum, developing a sound understanding of theory-based pedagogy and evidence-informed practice in science education.
Become an effective manager of learning in the laboratory setting, understanding the key role of practical and investigative activities in science and managing activities safely.
Analyse the theories underpinning formative and summative assessment practices and learn to use them effectively to facilitate learner progression and reporting to parents, colleagues, and external agencies.
Understand your role in contributing to an inclusive, broad, and balanced curriculum, including links between science and other areas of learning such as mathematics, technology, literacy, numeracy, and digital competence.
Undertake extended placements in Welsh-medium partnership schools, working with well-trained mentors to progress towards Qualified Teacher Status in accordance with the Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership in Wales.
