Global History MSc

This is a research-intensive humanities programme for those who want to understand the deep roots of globalization. The MSc in Global History rejects the traditional "King and Country" approach. Instead, it analyzes the connections between regions—how a famine in China affected prices in London, or how migration shaped the Americas.

The curriculum is seminar-based. You will read extensively on themes like Imperialism, Slavery, and Global Markets. Core modules train you in comparative methodology, asking you to synthesize sources from different languages and archives.

It is particularly strong on Economic History and Environmental History, allowing students to explore how resource extraction (like coal or oil) drove historical change—a perfect theoretical backdrop for understanding the transition to renewables.
