English and History (Hons)

Students engage with a varied curriculum that combines core and optional modules across three years, with the possibility of extending to four years through a year‑abroad pathway. In the first year, foundational modules in poetry, London global perspectives, and medieval literature are paired with compulsory history courses such as History in Practice and two essay modules. The second year offers choices from Renaissance drama, modernism, postcolonial literature and a range of specialist history topics, alongside a research project. The final year allows selection of a dissertation or special subject and elective modules covering feminist theory, Gothic literature, empire studies and more, while teaching combines lectures, seminars, field trips and workshops, supported by extensive library and archival resources and assessed through coursework and examinations.
