Program Overview: Therapeutic Recreation Diploma

The Therapeutic Recreation Diploma at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is a two-year program that prepares you to use recreation as a powerful tool for improving health, functional ability, and quality of life. Offered at the Saskatoon campus and through distance education, this program provides a broad knowledge base spanning human growth and development, sociology, and therapeutic intervention strategies.

Throughout the program, you will focus on assessing individual needs, functional abilities, and leisure behaviours while learning to design, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation programs. Three integrated practicums give you hands-on experience in real-world clinical and community-based settings, allowing you to apply assessment techniques, conduct activity analysis, and develop treatment plans.

Graduates are well-positioned to pursue professional certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association.
