Curriculum and Modules
The Bioengineering BEng curriculum provides a thorough grounding in engineering and biological concepts, with a balanced mix of theory, application, and practical content from day one. The first two years of the BEng and MEng share the same content, and students are assessed through a mixture of coursework and written examinations with an approximate ratio of 60/40.
Introduction to Biomedical Engineering
20Provides an understanding of the basic engineering and life science principles used in designing and making exemplar bioengineering products, including prosthetics, biomaterial implants, and medical devices.
Human Anatomy and Physiology
20Develops a sound understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and biological functions, providing the biological foundation needed for bioengineering applications.
Engineering Mathematics and Modelling
20Covers the mathematical tools and computational modelling techniques essential for analysing and solving bioengineering problems across biological and mechanical systems.
Biomechanics
20Explores the mechanical principles governing the human body, including movement analysis, tissue mechanics, and the design of prosthetic and assistive devices.
Materials for Bioengineering
20Examines the properties and applications of biomaterials used in medical implants, tissue engineering, and regenerative medicine, including biocompatibility and material selection.
Individual Research Project
40A final-year research project on a specific topic of interest, supervised by a member of academic staff, allowing you to apply your knowledge and skills to an original bioengineering challenge.
