Program Overview: MRes Neurotechnology at Imperial College London
The MRes Neurotechnology at Imperial College London is a one-year full-time programme that equips you with technical knowledge, expertise, and transferable skills at the interface between neuroscience and engineering. Neurotechnology draws on insights and tools from mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering to investigate neural function and treat dysfunction, addressing the growing burden of brain-related illnesses that affect more than two billion people worldwide.
Through lectures and practical work in the first term, you will explore specialised concepts in neurotechnology research and consider future developments and technologies. The programme culminates in a nine-month research project under expert supervision, allowing you to apply techniques and problem-solving skills to an area of interest and submit an MRes thesis.
This degree is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), and the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED), on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. The MRes also forms the first year of the four-year CDT Neurotechnology programme but may be taken as a stand-alone qualification.
Key Program Highlights
- Accredited by the IET, IOM3, and IED for Chartered Engineer registration requirements
- Nine-month intensive research project under expert supervision in cutting-edge neurotechnology
- Multidisciplinary training bridging neuroscience, engineering, computing, and biomedical sciences
- Based in Imperial's Department of Bioengineering, ranked 4th in the UK for Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering
