Midwifery

Midwives provide health consultancy and education, sexual and reproductive health services, pregnancy preparation education, and the organization and implementation of parenting and birth preparation programs. They play a very important role in monitoring the reproductive health of women within the fertile age range and enabling them to live quality, productive and healthy lives. Midwives are health personnel who take on important duties not only for women but also for society and families. Midwives, who are the cornerstone of strong and durable health systems, also undertake important duties in gender equality activities. Midwives are also with women in disasters and emergencies. Midwives, who still maintain their importance in the world, in countries facing humanitarian crises and affected by the coronavirus, are very resilient and courageous in fulfilling their responsibilities. The “Midwifery” department opened within the Faculty of Health Sciences of Izmir Tınaztepe University is a 4-year undergraduate program. The aim of this department is to train midwives who will adopt the basic theories and principles of their profession, are equipped, have basic knowledge and skills, can express themselves with confidence, are inquisitive and questioning, open to change, and are contemporary. The aim is to train leader midwives who will be able to early diagnose risky situations that women may encounter in every period of their lives with the awareness of the professional duty and responsibility of midwifery, and who can plan the most accurate approaches for the protection, treatment, restoration and maintenance of health. Graduates from this department are given the title of “Midwife”.
