The Sustainable Waste Management graduate certificate program at Conestoga College equips you with industry-leading skills to work in a variety of industrial, municipal, or organizational settings. Curriculum & Course Modules
The Sustainable Waste Management program features a practical, hands-on curriculum covering waste collection systems, environmental legislation, innovative technologies, and applied research. Courses are designed to build both technical competence and leadership skills for the evolving waste management sector.
Explores current provincial and national waste management practices including waste collection, materials recovery facilities (MRFs), Extended Producer Responsibilities, recycling and hazardous waste facilities, sustainable development, and landfills.
Develops practical skills to apply environmental laws and regulations including the Environmental Protection Act, the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, and the Waste Diversion Transition Act. Includes conducting environmental audits aligned with ISO 14001 standards.
Explores new and emerging waste management technologies including circular economy concepts, clean materials streams, materials science, greenhouse gas reduction, and disruptive innovations through coursework and guest presentations.
Teaches students to quantify waste in order to comply with legislative requirements for waste management services, systems, and facilities. Covers data analysis and reporting for regulatory compliance.
Students apply their learning through applied research projects, working with community and industry partners to identify innovative solutions to real-world waste management problems.
