Architecture
Gorizia Campus, Italy
The curriculum is divided into single-disciplinary workshops and courses, complemented by activities that develop linguistic, interpersonal, and other skills useful in the professional world. Workshops are the predominant organizational format through which the core courses of the program are delivered: from architectural design to urban planning, from architectural restoration to construction design. Specifically, Design Workshops are offered in every year of the program and are designed to provide students with targeted design experience, allowing them to engage with increasingly complex issues at various scales of intervention. Students will thus acquire and practice the skills to develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the outcomes of architecture and interior design projects, urban development projects, the protection and restoration of historic buildings, as well as landscape and urban planning plans and projects. This is achieved by using techniques relevant to various disciplines—such as digital representation, advanced modeling, geographic information systems, etc.—and by experimenting with practices geared toward integrating design with innovative production processes, pursuing sustainability and resilience goals, and assessing the technical and economic feasibility of interventions. The multi- and interdisciplinary approach aims to develop and consolidate the ability to understand problems, apply acquired knowledge, and independently formulate design proposals based on available information. The curriculum is complemented by three core and specialized single-subject courses per year, which integrate and refine the skills necessary for developing the design experiences undertaken in the Workshops. The opportunity to attend courses and workshops at partner universities abroad, over varying periods of up to 24 months, is also facilitated by the optimal faculty-to-student ratio, which allows students to follow their studies abroad if necessary. Finally, the final year of the program offers the opportunity to choose between two majors (Integrated Architecture or Integrated City, Territory, and Landscape Design) within the Integrated Design Laboratory, allowing students to further develop their design skills.
