Interior Architecture
Beykent University, Turkey
The Department of Interior Architecture (Turkish) at Beykent University offers a dynamic and comprehensive 4-year undergraduate program designed to educate creative, innovative, and globally competent interior architects. The program aims to develop professionals who not only meet international standards but also bring originality, technical precision, and cultural sensitivity to the spaces they design.
The department places a strong emphasis on the development of aesthetic vision, functional planning, and technical detailing, nurturing students who can create distinctive interior environments that respond to contemporary needs and values. Graduates are expected to be proficient in both the artistic and scientific aspects of interior architecture, capable of producing high-quality, livable, and sustainable interior spaces.
Students begin their academic journey with foundational design and theory courses, and from the second year onward, they engage intensively in “Design Studio” courses. These studios form the core of the curriculum, where students apply their knowledge to real-world projects, integrating spatial planning, lighting, color, furniture design, ergonomics, and user experience. Simultaneously, students receive training in computer-aided design (CAD) and visualization programs, allowing them to express their ideas through professional-grade digital presentations.
The program is enriched with a balance of practical and theoretical education, ensuring that students understand not only how to design, but also why certain design decisions are made based on historical, cultural, social, and technological contexts. Courses in building systems, materials and construction techniques, structural elements, professional ethics, and project management further equip students with the necessary tools to operate confidently in the field.
A significant component of the program is the mandatory internship, which consists of 20 working days on construction sites and 20 working days in an architectural or design office. This hands-on experience provides students with real-world exposure to the industry, helping them bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
The language of instruction is Turkish, and students benefit from the university’s academic resources, expert faculty, and connections with industry professionals.
Graduates of the Interior Architecture Department are well-prepared to pursue careers in interior architecture offices, architectural firms, construction companies, furniture design studios, or as independent interior architects. They may also choose to continue their education in graduate programs in interior architecture, architecture, or design-related fields.
