Actuarial Science (MSc)
Highfield Campus, United Kingdom
Overview
The actuary master's degree at the University of Southampton is designed to prepare candidates for a career as an expert actuary. An early professional advantage is secured through this qualification, which is recognised by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Upon completion of the program, the capability to assess and manage risk using advanced actuarial science methods is established. This knowledge can be applied to roles such as an analyst or various other careers requiring quantitative skills. The curriculum trains specialists to identify, analyse, and manage risks with long-term financial consequences—expertise that is vital across the financial services industry. A broad collection of topics is covered, including actuarial mathematics, statistics and probability, economics, accounting and finance, as well as survival models and analysis. The course structure is flexible, catering to students both with and without prior actuarial education, and guidance on module choices is provided to meet specific educational requirements.
