Theology and Culture

The Master's program, which is unique in Germany, combines theology and cultural studies in an interdisciplinary study program. The Master's program is aimed at graduates of theology (Protestant or Catholic) as well as theology-related courses such as religious studies or Jewish studies or history and sociology with a corresponding focus. Students deal with cultural theoretical foundations as well as with the phenomenon of religion, the diversity of religions and their social functions through to application-oriented questions of pedagogy and cultural management. One focus in Osnabrück is on the exploration of the interrelationship between culture and religion(s). The consecutive specialist Master's degree course is designed as a research-oriented full-time course with 120 credit points and is completed with a Master's thesis and the degree "Master of Arts". Through the combination of more theoretical and more practically oriented courses, the degree program creates a broad basis for a professional career with various cultural institutions and producers and in theological and church-related fields of work. Possible fields of activity are: Media, independent educational work, associations and companies (e.g. public relations, personnel administration, cultural representatives), tourism, consulting and coaching.
