The Certificate of Higher Education in Biblical Studies and Theology at the University of Roehampton equips you with the tools, knowledge, and skills to effectively study and teach the Old and New Testaments. Full-time students attend online classes on Tuesday evenings and face-to-face teaching on campus on Saturdays over a period of 10 months.

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Certificate of Higher Education equating to 120 credits at Level 4, providing a solid foundation for further study or career advancement. After completing this course, you can seamlessly transition into the FdA/BTh Theology, Mission and Practice programme at Roehampton if you wish to continue your studies.

History of Christian Thought

Introduces you to the major contours of Christian history through five guiding questions about what the church teaches, who the church is, and how the church renews itself. This module offers an interpretive framework for understanding how foundational questions have shaped Christian identity, doctrine, and mission across time and cultures.

Introduction to Christian Doctrine

Explores the underlying concepts, figures, methods, and questions in historical and contemporary expressions of Christianity. You will learn about key doctrines of the Christian church including critical issues in their development, assessed through a doctrine portfolio.

Introduction to Theological Formation

Integrated

Addresses the nature and challenges of beginning theological study and leads you toward a critical self-awareness of your own learning journey in theology. Skills and knowledge acquisition alongside character development are seen as complementary aspects of each student's theological formation.

Academic Study Skills for Theology

Integrated

Develops essential academic skills including critical thinking, clear communication, collaboration, ethical reflection, and independent research.
