Environmental Engineering (Joint UNBC and UBC) (Co-Op) Bachelor
Prince George (Main Campus), Canada
The Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Joint UNBC and UBC) (Co-Op) is a highly regarded undergraduate program delivered collaboratively by the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and the University of British Columbia (UBC). This joint program is designed for students who want to address complex environmental challenges through innovative engineering solutions while gaining practical industry experience.
The curriculum provides a strong foundation in core engineering principles such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering design, alongside specialized environmental engineering subjects. Students study areas including water and wastewater treatment, air quality management, environmental systems modeling, waste management, sustainable infrastructure, climate change mitigation, and environmental impact assessment.
A key component of the program is the co-op (cooperative education) option, which allows students to complete paid, supervised work placements with engineering firms, government agencies, environmental consultancies, and industry partners. These placements enable students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, develop professional engineering skills, and build valuable industry connections.
As a joint UNBC–UBC degree, students benefit from the academic strengths, research facilities, and reputations of two leading Canadian institutions. Graduates are well-prepared for careers as environmental engineers in public and private sectors, or for professional engineering licensure and postgraduate study. Studying this program abroad offers internationally recognized qualifications, hands-on work experience, and strong career prospects in the global environmental and sustainability engineering sector.
