The BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science degree at the University of Lincoln gives you the opportunity to explore the science that underlies animal health and disease. The programme combines key concepts in animal science with relevant laboratory, field, and computer analysis, preparing you for a range of careers in animal-related professions.
You will be introduced to the processes surrounding animal health, including life histories of pathogens and parasites, infection and immunity, preventative measures, diagnosis, and treatments. There is the opportunity to study these issues across a range of animal species, including exotic, companion, livestock, and wild animals, as well as in humans.
Students also have the option of an overseas field trip in their final year, with previous destinations including the cloud forests of Ecuador, the Mankwe Wildlife Reserve in South Africa, and Peniche in Portugal. All full-time Bioveterinary Science students may take an optional placement year between the second and third year of the programme.

Curriculum and Modules
The BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science curriculum is structured across three years, progressing from foundational biological sciences to advanced specialist topics and independent research. Introduction to the Life Sciences
Core ModuleProvides a foundation in fundamental cell biology, biochemistry, and genetics in the context of life sciences. This module establishes the essential knowledge base for all subsequent study.
Comparative Anatomy and Physiology of Animals
Core ModuleCovers the anatomical and physiological structures and functions across a range of animal species. Students develop a thorough understanding of how different body systems operate and interact.
Animal Health and Disease
Core ModuleExamines diseases across a wide variety of animal species, their impacts on animals and humans, disease treatments and control methods, and functional animal nutrition to prevent disease and maintain optimal health.
Data Science for Life Scientists
Core ModuleIntroduces data storage, handling, and manipulation skills including understanding data types, visualisation, fitting statistical models, interpreting results, and applying these skills in experimental designs.
Veterinary Parasitology
Specialist ModuleProvides a theoretical background for understanding parasitic adaptations, host-parasite associations, resulting diseases, and advances in treatment and prevention. Includes analytical laboratory methods for identifying ecto- and endoparasites.
Honours Research Project
Core ModuleIn the final year, students undertake an individual research project using advanced facilities. Topics may span any area of bioveterinary science, allowing you to specialise in your area of interest.
