The University of Lincoln is a public research university situated on the picturesque Brayford Pool waterfront in the heart of the historic city of Lincoln, England. With over 16,000 students across two academic colleges and more than 300 courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, the university has established an international reputation for the quality of its teaching, research, and innovative approach to working with employers.
The university traces its origins to 1861 through several predecessor institutions, including the Hull School of Art, Hull Technical Institute, and other colleges that merged in 1976 to form Hull College of Higher Education. It gained university status in 1992 as the University of Humberside, was renamed the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside in 1996, and adopted its current name in 2001 when it moved its main campus to Lincoln.
Since Queen Elizabeth II opened the Brayford Pool Campus in 1996, more than GBP 400 million has been invested in buildings and facilities. The university was awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 for outstanding teaching, learning, and student outcomes, and received the Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2023 for its work supporting the UK's food and farming industries.
