Curriculum and Modules
The BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Science curriculum provides a strong scientific foundation in the early years and progresses into specialized bioveterinary topics. Students gain broad knowledge of essential facts, major concepts, principles and theories associated with bioveterinary science, alongside strong technical skills and laboratory competencies. A work placement in third year provides invaluable industry experience.
Introduces core concepts fundamental to all biological systems including cell structure and composition, genetics, metabolism, anatomy and physiology of bacteria, fungi, plants and animals, ecosystems and environmental biology.
Provides students with a foundation in Chemistry focusing on chemical properties, interactions, concepts and calculations relevant to animal healthcare, including Chemical Bonding, Chemical Reactivity, Organic Chemistry, Biomolecules and Analytical Science.
Builds on the scientific foundations of Biology and Chemistry to develop critical thinking and laboratory skills in Toxicology, with emphasis on the effects and assessment of bioveterinary relevant toxicants at the molecular, cellular, organ, organism, and population levels.
Explores the structures and functions of membranes and subcellular organelles, examining how they act as an integrated network for protein and lipid trafficking, and how cells communicate with their environment through signal interpretation.
Covers the principles of pharmacology relevant to veterinary science, including drug mechanisms, therapeutic applications, and the development and formulation of veterinary pharmaceutical products.
Provides an overall view of how quality is maintained throughout the manufacturing process, covering current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) regulations, quality regulations and applicable ISO standards, as well as regulatory and policy frameworks in the agricultural and veterinary industries.
