Program Overview: BA Translation at the University of Leipzig

The Bachelor of Arts in Translation at the University of Leipzig equips you with the intercultural and linguistic competencies needed to transmit content from one language into another. Offered by the Institute of Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT), the program provides a solid theoretical foundation in translatology from the very first semester, progressively building toward practical, job-relevant skills in translation and interpreting.

The program covers translation theory and methods, cultural studies of your working languages' regions, and modern language technologies for text production and translation. A unique feature is the opportunity to study Spanish regional languages such as Galician, Catalan, and Basque, alongside mainstream language combinations.

With 180 ECTS credits spread across six semesters, the curriculum includes 90 credits in your core subject, 60 credits in an elective area or subject, and 30 credits in key qualifications. Students are encouraged to complete a semester abroad, preferably in their fifth semester, at one of IALT's more than 50 partner universities worldwide.
