Program Overview: BVMS Veterinary Medicine & Surgery
The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVMS) at the University of Lancashire is a collaborative, professionally focused five-year program designed to train you as a veterinary surgeon. Developed to meet Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) requirements, the course equips you with the skills to prevent and treat animal health and welfare problems across multiple species.
Veterinary medicine is a multi-disciplinary subject incorporating science, clinical skills, animal behaviour and welfare, disease management and epidemiology, and human-animal relationships. The program delivers an immersive, practically focused curriculum with clinical placements beginning from Year 1, making the University of Lancashire one of the first UK vet schools to offer such early hands-on experience.
Instead of traditional lectures, the program uses innovative Team-Based Learning (TBL) in smaller groups, supported by digital technologies such as Anatomage virtual dissection tables and high-fidelity simulation suites. Students also benefit from a dedicated wellbeing support program and weekly access to working farm facilities at Myerscough College.
