Biology (BSc)
Weinberg Campus, Germany
Overview
Biology forms the foundation of the life sciences. It deals with the complex phenomena of life and explores the fundamental interactions between molecules, cells, organisms, populations, and communities. Biologists unravel the fundamental molecular secrets of life, investigate the microscopic world, research the interactions between different organisms, explore primeval forests, deserts, and other habitats, and develop the foundations for species conservation.
Highly topical areas of focus in Halle include molecular mechanisms of biological information processing, particularly in plants, protein biochemistry, phytopathology, heavy metal resistance of microorganisms, social behavior and genetics of bees, and the functions of biodiversity in the subtropics. Accordingly, the 180-credit Bachelor's program in Biology combines a broad basic scientific education with specialization through a selection of specialized biological modules in the final semesters.
