Meteorology

As the science of weather and climate, meteorology is primarily the physics of the atmosphere . Physics and mathematics therefore make up a large portion of the courses at the beginning of the program. Building on the mathematical and physical foundations, students in the Bachelor's program in Meteorology are introduced to the fundamentals of atmospheric sciences, both theoretically and experimentally. Meteorology is not a vocational training course for weather forecasting , but rather a scientific discipline that deals with the physical and chemical processes within the atmosphere and their interactions with the Earth system. Meteorology is therefore also applied environmental research.

The Bachelor’s degree program can be roughly divided into three sections:

Basics in Mathematics, Physics and Meteorology (1st-3rd semesters)

Meteorological subjects and minor modules (from 3rd semester)

Specialization and Bachelor's thesis (5th-6th semester)

The spectrum of research and specialization options in Frankfurt is very broad, ranging from experimental atmospheric research and weather and climate modeling to research into the theoretical foundations of atmospheric processes. Goethe University's diverse range of subjects also offers a wide selection of minor subjects that round out our graduates' personal academic profiles. In the optional module , students can freely pursue a wide variety of academic interests or, for example, incorporate soft skills.
