The Gateway to Medicine is a one-year preparatory course at the University of Dundee designed to support students from widening access backgrounds towards entry onto the five-year MBChB medicine program. Upon successful completion, you receive a Certificate of Higher Education in Life Sciences for Medicine and gain direct entry to Level 1 of the Dundee MBChB course.

The Science of Life and of the Organism
20 creditsAddresses the cell cycle and cell replication, the transfer of information from DNA to protein, and the specialisation and organisation of cells into major organ systems. Develops an evolutionary perspective across diverse organisms.
Orientation to Clinical Skills
20 creditsBased at the School of Medicine at Ninewells Hospital, this module introduces you to aspects of examining patients and basic life support. You also shadow medical students working on hospital wards.
Healthcare in Context
20 creditsExamines how and why medicine is practised within the NHS and in Scotland. Includes reflective study based on your healthcare support work or charity volunteering experience during the year.

The Gateway to Medicine program is designed for students from widening access backgrounds who may not have achieved the standard entry requirements for direct entry to medicine. All applications are processed through Uni4Edu, where our advisors will guide you through every step of the process.

- Widening Access Applicants (Scottish Highers)ABBB or BBBBB at Higher, including Chemistry and another science subject, all at first sitting
- Non-Science Background ApplicantsAAAAB at Higher with no more than one science subject (excluding Chemistry), plus three Advanced Highers in 6th year
- National 5 / Intermediate 2Grades at National 5 or Intermediate 2 level will also be taken into account during the assessment process
- Aptitude TestUCAT test required in the year of application; there is no minimum cut-off score
