MPhil in Engineering at the University of Cambridge

The MPhil in Engineering at the University of Cambridge is a research-focused postgraduate degree offered by the Department of Engineering. Completed over one year of full-time study (or two years part-time), this programme gives you the opportunity to produce a 15,000-word thesis that makes a substantial contribution to knowledge in your chosen sub-discipline.

The programme is designed for students who wish to develop their research skills under close academic supervision. It serves as excellent preparation for PhD study or for careers in industrial and commercial research, equipping you with both specialist knowledge and transferable research competencies.

This MPhil is highly flexible and can be tailored to your particular interests across any of the Department's research divisions, including Electrical Engineering, Mechanics Materials and Design, Civil Engineering, Manufacturing and Management, and Information Engineering. In addition to your thesis work, you will take two taught modules and participate in a researcher development programme.

Key Programme Highlights

  • Flexible research programme spanning all Engineering Department sub-disciplines
  • 15,000-word thesis contributing original knowledge to your field
  • Two taught master's-level modules with approximately 80 hours of study each
