Economics
Main Campus, Germany
The bachelor's program in Economics provides an intensive methodological training in addition to the fundamentals of economics and business studies during the first half of the study program. By choosing a track within the economics major and continuing the sound empirical training, the study is continued in the second half of the study. In the subject-specific context of the major “Economic Evolution, Human Behavior and Policy”, key competencies such as scientific work and teamwork are taught. The Economics program is studied as a six-semester full-time program and thus has a scope of 180 credit points (CP). One CP corresponds to a working time of 25 to 30 hours. The program in the minor subject of Economics conveys basic concepts and general contexts in the essential subject areas of economics and business studies and is studied together with a profile subject. It has a scope of 60 credit points (CP). The program starts with a basic education that integrates both business and economics modules. These subjects are supplemented by an intensive methodological training comprising mathematics, statistics, econometrics, programming and analytical skills. In the fourth semester, students opt for one out of two tracks within the economics major “Economic Evolution, Human Behavior and Policy”: Sustainability Economics or Digital Economics. Within the major, the focus is placed on research-based learning, which is particularly the case in the project module. The specialized studies are supplemented by the General Studies area. This area offers the possibility to integrate language courses, additional professional qualifications or practice-oriented courses in its electives. The compulsory modules in the General Studies area supplement the specialized training with further modules for the acquisition of professionally relevant skills. The program is usually completed in the sixth semester with the bachelor's thesis. The range of subjects in the Economics program and in the Business Studies program is identical in the first two semesters, so that a change of programs is possible until the third semester without risking a delay in the overall study time. In the degree program in Economics (single major subject), the major is differentiated into two tracks. This offers students a comprehensive perspective on innovation-driven economic change, human behavior in economic contexts, implications of digitalization, sustainability issues, and political action in a complex, evolving world. Within the major, students can choose between the tracks
Sustainability Economics and
Digital Economics.
