Program Overview: MEng Chemical Engineering at Aberdeen

The MEng Chemical Engineering program at the University of Aberdeen is a five-year integrated master's degree that prepares you for a rewarding career in one of the most versatile engineering disciplines. Chemical engineering is concerned with manipulating the chemical, biochemical, or physical state of substances to convert raw materials into valuable products safely, sustainably, and cost-effectively.

Aberdeen's distinctive interdisciplinary approach means you study the fundamentals of all five engineering disciplines — chemical, mechanical, petroleum, electrical and electronic, and civil — during your first two years before specialising in chemical engineering from year three onward. This broad foundation equips you with a wide range of perspectives and collaborative skills that employers highly value.

Located in Aberdeen, widely recognised as the energy capital of Europe, the program offers unparalleled access to the oil and gas industry, energy transition research, and strong industry connections. The School of Engineering features a dedicated chemical engineering teaching laboratory and modern computing and learning spaces, providing you with an excellent environment for hands-on study.

Key Program Highlights

  • Accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), fully satisfying the educational base for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
  • Interdisciplinary first two years covering all five engineering disciplines, with specialisation from year three
  • Strong industry links in Aberdeen, the energy capital of Europe, with opportunities for internships and placements
  • Dedicated chemical engineering teaching laboratory and modern computing and learning facilities
