Curriculum and Course Modules
The Disability Support Professional program is structured across three semesters, progressing from foundational knowledge to advanced skills and practical application. The curriculum covers essential topics including basic care, behavioural support, human development, and professional communication, culminating in supervised practicum experiences.
Provides foundational knowledge of the disability support field, including the history of disability services, current philosophies of care, and the role of the disability support professional in various settings.
Develops essential care skills needed to provide personal care and daily living support to individuals with varying needs and abilities in residential and community environments.
Focuses on developing skills in managing challenging behaviours and preventing crises, using evidence-based strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals receiving support.
