Forensic Mental Health: Research and Practice MSc
Mile End Campus (Main), United Kingdom
The MSc in Forensic Mental Health: Research and Practice offers a multidisciplinary view of the link between mental disorder and criminal behaviour, drawing on forensic psychology, psychiatry, criminology and sociology. It provides training in research methods such as systematic literature searching, critical synthesis and data analysis, and prepares students to design and conduct original research relevant to forensic mental health practice. The curriculum includes four compulsory modules and eight elective modules covering professional skills, health economics, cultural psychology, health systems policy, investigative legal processes and psychological therapies, allowing customised study in clinical, research or policy areas. Students produce a 10,000‑15,000‑word dissertation that contributes new knowledge and are supervised by a personal advisor who guides the research process. Teaching combines formal lectures, small‑group seminars, role‑play exercises and workshops to develop academic insight and practical competence. The programme is based at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, which provides extensive library resources, state‑of‑the‑art laboratories and close collaborations with NHS trusts, creating a vibrant setting for interdisciplinary scholarship and professional development.
