This program gives you basic training in two high-demand mechanical trades at once. Heavy duty equipment technicians work on large mobile equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, graders, loaders, and earthmovers used in construction, mining, forestry, and more, while truck and transport mechanics work on trucks, buses, and highway transport vehicles for dealers, garages, and transportation companies.
You will build the knowledge and skills needed to service, maintain, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, buses, and transport vehicles. Graduates receive training equivalent to levels one and two of the apprenticeship for both Heavy Duty Mechanics and Truck and Transport Mechanics trades.

Air Brake & Hydraulic Brake Systems
Core ModuleLearn the design, operation, and service recommendations for air-operated and hydraulic brake systems. Topics include anti-lock braking systems, traction and stability control systems, park brake systems, and foundation brake testing and repair.
Preventive Maintenance & Inspections
Core ModuleCover preventative maintenance programs on both highway and off-road equipment. Topics include power unit frame and suspension systems, docking and coupling systems, roll-over protective structures (ROPS), and falling object protective structures (FOPS).
Ozone Depleting Substances & Air Conditioning
Core ModuleComplete the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute's environmental awareness program and Canada's Ozone Layer Protection Awareness Program. This certifies you to legally service and maintain air conditioning systems on mobile equipment.
Electrical & Electronic Systems
Core ModuleLearn the basic principles of electrical and electronics in mobile equipment trades. Develop skills in circuit analysis, component testing, and maintenance of wiring systems and electrical accessories used in heavy equipment and transport vehicles.
Indigenous Studies & Workplace Readiness
Core ModuleReceive an introduction to Indigenous cultural groups within Saskatchewan and learn about current issues and possible solutions. Develop essential job skills by preparing job search documents and practicing effective interpersonal communication for the workplace.

North West College welcomes both domestic and international applicants to the Heavy Equipment & Truck & Transport Technician Certificate program. Applicants who do not possess the standard academic qualifications may still be admitted through a special admission assessment if evidence of probable success can be established.
