Piri Reis University is a private foundation university established on February 8, 2008 by the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TUDEV). Named after the legendary Ottoman admiral and cartographer Piri Reis, it holds the distinction of being Turkey's first and only university specializing in maritime science, engineering, and related disciplines.

The university is an active member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) and the Black Sea Association of Maritime Institutions (BSAMI). Its Maritime Faculty adheres to the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), ensuring graduates meet global professional standards.

Beyond maritime studies, Piri Reis University offers education across five faculties, a vocational school, and a postgraduate institute.
