Music — Jazz
Program Overview: Music (Jazz) with Foundation Year
Leeds Conservatoire's jazz degree was the first of its kind established in Europe, and over more than 50 years the institution has become a leading authority in jazz education across the UK and Europe. The Foundation Year route is a four-year integrated degree that gives you an extra year to develop your musical and theoretical skills before progressing to the full BA (Hons) curriculum.
Led by Programme Leader Jamil Sheriff and supported by a host of renowned jazz musicians, this highly collaborative curriculum shapes you into a forward-thinking, creative artist grounded in tradition but with a hunger to take music to new dimensions. You will benefit from one-to-one tuition with specialists in your instrument, form innovative ensembles, and develop composition, musicology, and critical listening skills.
Students enjoy unrivalled performance opportunities including regular B-Side nights, bi-monthly jazz showcases such as Cut Throat and Undercurrent, weekly jam sessions, and collaborations with the BBC. Leeds Conservatoire also maintains key relationships with Jazz Leeds Festival, the Village Jazz Festival, and numerous jazz venues across the city.
