In occupational therapy, physical, social and environmental factors that affect people's social participation are evaluated and necessary interventions are made to eliminate or reduce them. (WFOT-World Federation of Occupational Therapy)
Occupational therapists conduct studies on developing the skills of individuals and communities to perform the activities they want, need and are expected of them, and on organizing the activity or environment in a way that will better enable individuals to participate. These studies;
- Individuals' independence and the ability to fulfill their roles required for their home, social and business lives without being dependent on anyone.
- Increasing the employment potential of people with disabilities by removing technical, legal and behavioral barriers
- Initiatives to implement European Employment Strategies to help disadvantaged individuals find employment
- Practices aimed at ensuring the competence and social participation of disadvantaged groups, the disabled, street children, alcohol and substance addicts, the elderly and women exposed to violence by increasing their activity and role performance.
- It is the development of protective strategies that include changing people's lifestyles through meaningful and purposeful physical and mental occupational therapy activities.
Occupational therapists work with all individuals who have impairments in their body structure and functions due to a health problem, or who are excluded from the social environment or whose participation is restricted.
