The BSc Cyber Security at the University of Warwick is delivered by WMG and is fully certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a part of GCHQ. This program equips you with a deep understanding of cyberspace, covering the fundamentals of software development, computer architecture, networks, operating systems, and information risk management.

Curriculum and Modules

The BSc Cyber Security curriculum is structured across three years, progressing from foundational computer science and security concepts to advanced topics in incident management, digital forensics, and data science. Year 1 lays the foundations, Year 2 builds on core skills in areas like software engineering and secure systems, and Year 3 covers advanced cyber security topics alongside your individual project.

Software Development

Develops fluency in the process of software development, providing a prerequisite foundation for much of the remainder of the programme. Covers programming principles, structured coding, and practical application.

Networks, Communication, and Cyber Defence

Covers core networking and communications concepts including Ethernet, IP, TCP, and UDP protocols, as well as the configuration and cyber implications of switches, routers, and firewalls.

Data Science, Algorithms, and Complexity in the Cyber Context

Develops central concepts and skills required to design, implement, and analyse algorithms for solving problems. Covers algorithmic complexity, data structures, and their application in technical cyber security contexts.

Cyber Incident Response and Digital Forensics

Covers the full incident response lifecycle from preparation through monitoring, detection, containment, eradication, restoration, and post-incident review, alongside digital forensics techniques for evidence preservation and analysis.

Cyber Security Project

A final-year individual project focusing on the cyber security domain. Under supervisor guidance, you undertake the full lifecycle of a research or development project, developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Managing and Securing Information
