Electrical Power and Systems Engineering
Trieste Campus, Italy
The importance of Electrical and Systems Engineering, as well as the strong connection between them, is highlighted by these three defining statements:
1. Electrical Engineering deals with a form of energy that can be produced, distributed, controlled, and used relatively easily and with limited losses;
2. the management of electrical energy, from its production to its use, occurs rationally, effectively, and efficiently thanks to the systematic and formal approach offered by Systems Engineering;
3. Systems Engineering is grounded in the scientific field of Automatic Control and encompasses modeling, systems theory, and automatic control.
Therefore, the Master of Science in Electrical, Energy, and Systems Engineering pursues the dual purpose of:
1) introducing interdisciplinary approaches to traditional electrical engineering courses, including topics such as modeling and a systems approach to the management and control of equipment;
2) complementing the training of industrial automation students by providing them with skills in static conversion, electrical machines, electric drives, and electric power systems.
The Master of Science program lasts two years and is structured into courses aimed at training graduates with adequate knowledge of scientific topics and general methodologies, as well as specific professional skills, in the disciplinary fields of electrical and systems engineering, specifically in the fields of power electronic converters, electrical machines, electric drives, electric power systems, electrical measurements, modeling, automation, and system control.
Admission to the Master's Degree Program requires a first-level (three-year) degree that provides solid knowledge of the core engineering subjects (mathematics, geometry, physics, chemistry, and computer science), as well as general and fundamental knowledge in the core areas of industrial engineering, specifically electrical and automation engineering.
During the two-year program, during which students are personally supervised by faculty, they receive appropriate assistance in planning their individual academic career.The student has the opportunity to enter a stimulating and open environment made up of students, undergraduates and graduates focused on the Degree Course.
Graduates find extensive employment in electrical power generation companies, energy management centers, design offices, and planning agencies. These sectors are not limited to electrical energy and industrial automation, but also encompass many other related fields. Thanks to a training based on a systems and methodological approach and a strong interdisciplinary focus, graduates possess a broad knowledge base that ensures high employability at regional, national, and international levels.
Recent graduates are supported in the workforce in two ways: by the University's dedicated departments and by the faculty of the Degree Program, leveraging numerous existing collaborations with companies in the sector.
