Trieste Campus, Italy
Overview
Upon completion of the master's degree, the graduate will be licensed to practice as a psychologist after completing a supervised professionalizing Practical Evaluation Internship and passing the Practical Evaluation Test prior to discussing the final thesis for the qualification. Graduates will also be eligible for second-level university master's degrees, research doctorates, and psychology specialization schools that qualify them to practice psychotherapy.
The two-year program (120 credits) offers:
- advanced courses aimed at developing skills common to the various fields of psychology;
- core and elective courses aimed at deepening the knowledge of the main research areas and the contexts in which psychologists work, with a particular focus on clinical, developmental, and neuropsychological fields;
- practical evaluation internships and professional development activities;
- the opportunity to train abroad as part of Erasmus exchange programs and collaborations.
The program includes mandatory core courses and activities that define two possible pathways, one of which must be chosen by the student.
The joint activities aim to offer advanced training in clinical psychology, enabling students to acquire
: knowledge related to self-representations, intrapsychic processes, and interpersonal, family, and group dynamics;
application skills for the analysis and treatment of mental distress and psychopathologies;
and theoretical and practical skills related to investigation methodologies and intervention techniques adopted in various operational models (individual, relational, family, and group) that characterize the clinical applications of psychology in various contexts (individuals, groups, systems), with a focus also on the areas of psychological health and well-being.
This training in clinical psychology is developed and deepened in one of the following chosen areas:
- developmental psychology, through the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to cognitive processes, emotional-motivational factors, and personality development in relation to typical and atypical developmental trajectories, which emerge in diverse growth contexts, such as school and family;
- neuropsychology, through the acquisition of specific knowledge of cognitive deficits associated with traumatic or degenerative neurological damage and normal or pathological aging; advanced knowledge of cognitive diagnosis and rehabilitation tools and the brain plasticity processes that mediate their therapeutic efficacy; specific and transversal skills suitable for pursuing the profession of clinical neuropsychologist in the healthcare field.
