Zoology

This Zoology MSci program investigates the effects of climate change on animal life, the ecological impact of populations, and the conservation of endangered species. As a four-year integrated master's degree, the curriculum includes specialized modules and culminates in an advanced research project. Practical training in zoology is supported by extensive field trips to locations such as Spain, Belize, and the New Forest.

The course covers the full spectrum of animal life, ranging from cell biology to entire ecosystems, providing in-depth training in the biological processes governing animal development, growth, and function. As studies progress, there are opportunities to specialize in specific areas of zoology. An extensive research project is a key component, offering potential collaboration with organizations within the UK or internationally.

Instruction is provided by leading experts in fields such as evolution, behaviour, conservation, neuroscience, and development. The degree utilizes the £50 million facilities at the Institute for Life Sciences and offers the chance to work alongside active research staff. Students can tailor the degree through elective modules, spend a semester studying at a partner university in Europe or Australasia, and develop vital professional skills. Furthermore, strong links with the local conservation charity and zoo, Marwell Wildlife, facilitate additional fieldwork opportunities and potential collaboration on final research projects.
