European Legal Studies

This four-year degree structure ensures students master the core subjects of a qualifying law degree during the first two years. The third year is dedicated to international study at one of our prestigious European partner institutions, located in cities such as Paris, Bologna, Oslo, and Vienna. While many partners offer instruction in English, language preparatory courses are available in the second year for destinations where they are required.Returning to Southampton for the final year, students complete a dissertation and select optional modules to deepen their expertise. The program emphasizes practical legal engagement, offering opportunities to shadow senior judges, advise clients in the Law Clinic, and collaborate with research groups like the Institute of Maritime Law. Students are also encouraged to join a variety of active student societies, such as the Mooting Society and Lawyers without Borders, to build professional networks.
