Medical Biotechnology
University of Rostock 18051 Rostock, Germany
The master's program expands the foundation of theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired in the bachelor's program with further current technological aspects and complements the subject matter with many highly interdisciplinary aspects. Reflecting this interdisciplinarity, the program is offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, and the Language Center at the University of Rostock. An interest in scientific and clinical research is required. Furthermore, good knowledge of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, and English is essential. A self-directed and independent working style, as well as a passion for working in a laboratory, round out the applicant profile.
The English-taught Master's program is characterized by a high proportion of practical training, primarily in the form of exercises and laboratory internships on cutting-edge and forward-looking topics, and by a strong interdisciplinarity. The former includes aspects of stem cell research, proteomic analysis, biomaterials research, systems biology, and productive process engineering on an industrial scale. The latter includes courses on technical English, optimizing self-presentation and communication, as well as optimized reading and writing of scientific articles and preparing applications for legal protection of one's own research and for obtaining third-party funding. The courses, some of which are held jointly with students from other faculties,
expand the understanding of other communication styles and ways of thinking and thus prepare students for the expected natural working environment, particularly in the field of applied research.
