Throughout your degree, you will:

  • Consider evidence-based approaches to policing, to understand how to police in an effective and ethical manner.
  • Be introduced to cutting-edge ideas on policing, which will shape the police of the future.
  • Undertake a consultancy project in your final year on an important policing issue. 

You will be taught by lecturers with vast experience in university teaching, and many years working in the police, including in leadership, hostage crisis negotiation, public order policing, response policing, neighbourhood policing, and as manager of an award-winning Problem-Oriented project. We will provide exciting modules which equip you with the skills to succeed professionally.

Our assessments are designed to develop your practical and academic skills. You’ll be set a range of authentic assessments, meaning they replicate and help you understand the working world of policing, ensuring that you are fully equipped for life after graduation.

Your tutors will fully support you to do your best in your assessments, and you will have dedicated time for assessment support.

 


Careers

This course will prepare you for a career in policing.

We have close links with the Metropolitan Police Service and other organisations they work with, and you will benefit from these.

You will also develop vital transferable skills, which are valued in a range of graduate employers. As such, whilst our programme is a good preparation for a career in the police, it will also be of use in a range of other careers should you decide not to pursue a career in policing.

Please note the degree has a currency of 5 years following graduation for recruitment into policing and you must still apply to the police force and satisfy their eligibility criteria. Please contact the Police Service for more information.
