Teesside University is a public university with its main campus in the heart of Middlesbrough, North East England. Founded as Constantine Technical College in 1930, the institution became a polytechnic in 1969 and was granted full university status by the Privy Council in 1992. Today it welcomes over 25,000 students from more than 100 countries across its campuses in Middlesbrough, Darlington, and London.

The university is organised into five academic schools and is recognised for its strong emphasis on employability, industry partnerships, and applied learning. Teesside was awarded an overall Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, and was named Times Higher Education University of the Year 2025 and Daily Mail Modern University of the Year 2026.

With more than GBP 300 million invested in its campus in recent years, Teesside offers outstanding modern facilities including The Curve teaching building, the Digital Life building, and the Bios sciences facility. Key Milestones

  • 1930: Constantine Technical College officially opened by the Prince of Wales on 2 July 1930, funded by local shipping magnate Joseph Constantine.
  • 1969: The college became Teesside Polytechnic, the 13th polytechnic established in Britain.
  • 1992: Granted university status by the Privy Council, becoming the University of Teesside.
  • 2009: Renamed to Teesside University and named Times Higher Education University of the Year for the first time.
