Wildlife Conservation (Recanati-Kaplan) PGDip

The Postgraduate Diploma in Wildlife Conservation (Recanati-Kaplan Centre) is an eight-month, full-time programme designed for early-career wildlife researchers and conservation practitioners. Delivered by the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) at the Department of Biology, the course provides comprehensive training in field survey techniques, data analysis, GIS, habitat assessment, population management, and statistical methods used in terrestrial mammal research, with a particular emphasis on carnivores in developing regions. Participants undertake modules that combine lectures, group discussions, technical practicals, field sessions, tutorials, and workshops, culminating in two reports that constitute an independent research project. The programme aims to equip conservationists, especially those working with NGOs or government agencies in economically less-developed countries, with the skills necessary to implement and disseminate effective conservation strategies in their home contexts. Scholarships are available for need-based applicants, and the course prioritises candidates already engaged in ecology or conservation research roles. By integrating practical fieldwork with scientific analysis and reporting, the PGDip prepares participants to become skilled, knowledgeable, and impactful practitioners in global wildlife conservation.
