Natural Resources Planning (Co-Op) Bachelor
Prince George (Main Campus), Canada
Overview
The Bachelor of Natural Resources Planning (Co-Op) is an undergraduate degree focused on the responsible planning and management of natural resources in diverse environmental and community contexts. The programme integrates knowledge from environmental science, geography, ecology, planning, Indigenous studies, and public policy to address complex challenges related to land use, conservation, and sustainable development.
Students explore key topics such as resource and land-use planning, environmental impact assessment, ecosystem management, climate change adaptation, conservation policy, and community engagement. Strong emphasis is placed on sustainability, ethical decision-making, and respectful collaboration with Indigenous communities, recognising the cultural, ecological, and social dimensions of natural resource management.
A defining feature of the programme is the co-operative education (Co-Op) component, which provides paid, supervised work placements with government agencies, environmental consultancies, Indigenous organisations, conservation groups, and natural resource industries. These placements allow students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, gain professional experience, and develop practical planning and management skills.
Throughout the programme, students build strong competencies in research, data analysis, communication, project management, and policy interpretation. Graduates of the Natural Resources Planning (Co-Op) Bachelor’s programme are well prepared for careers in environmental and land-use planning, conservation and resource management, sustainability consulting, and public service, as well as for postgraduate study in planning, environmental management, or related fields.
