Program Overview: DIGISOC Master's Degree
DIGISOC is a European Joint Master's Programme in Digital Society, Social Innovation and Global Citizenship, jointly offered by the University of Naples Federico II (Italy), the University of Innsbruck (Austria), and Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic). Developed within the EURIDICE project and co-funded by the European Union, this interdisciplinary programme equips you with comprehensive expertise to address pressing global challenges in a rapidly digitalizing world.
The programme combines advanced digital competencies with in-depth social innovation knowledge, focusing on three critical sectors of society: Education, Communication, and Culture. You will learn to design, develop, prototype, and promote digital solutions that are technologically sound, ethically grounded, and socially impactful.
As the first European Joint Master's Programme at the University of Naples Federico II, DIGISOC is based in the Department of Social Sciences at the San Giovanni a Teduccio University Campus. Teaching takes place in a hybrid format through the innovative Collaboratorium for Blended International Hybrid Learning, with mandatory on-site Summer Schools at partner universities across Europe.

Curriculum & Module Structure
The DIGISOC study programme consists of 120 ECTS credits over two years, culminating in a Master's thesis. It incorporates compulsory and elective modules, short-term mobility phases via Summer Schools, individual learning paths, internships, and service learning opportunities. Year I focuses on foundational and advanced thematic modules, while Year II offers specialisation, electives, practical experience, and the thesis.
Foundations of Digital Society
10 ECTSExplores theories on digital society with a specific focus on information, culture, communication, and education. Provides the foundational knowledge for understanding how digital technologies transform contemporary societies.
Global Citizenship for Sustainable Development
10 ECTSExamines global citizenship frameworks in the digital age, addressing sustainability, democratic values, social justice, and inclusion within an increasingly interconnected world.
Social Innovation Theories and Methods
10 ECTSCovers social innovation as a set of theories and methods to address pressing unmet societal needs through the value-oriented design, development, and management of innovative socio-digital practices.
Joint Summer School I: Introduction to Key Themes
5 ECTSAn on-site event held jointly by all degree-awarding universities at the opening of Year I. Serves as an immersive introduction to the programme's key themes and fosters cross-cultural collaboration among the student cohort.
Specialising Module (Year II)
20 ECTSStudents choose one of three specialisation tracks focusing on Education, Public and Political Communication, or Cultural Industries. This module deepens expertise in your chosen sector of digital society.
Master's Thesis and Defence
20 ECTSThe culminating research project where you conduct original, independent research on a topic related to digital society and social innovation. Includes thesis writing and a formal oral defence before an international committee.

Admission Requirements
DIGISOC welcomes applications from graduates of a wide range of academic backgrounds. The programme is explicitly designed as interdisciplinary and does not require a specific disciplinary specialisation. Admission is based on academic qualifications and a centralised online admission test that evaluates critical thinking competencies rather than subject-specific knowledge.
