Biology for one health
University of Naples Federico II Campus, Italy
The program aims to train biologists with solid knowledge to ensure the holistic approach of the One Health model becomes increasingly essential in the current and near future, as human settlement of new areas, ever-closer contact with animals, climate change, land use, and global travel and trade foster the spread of diseases that pose a serious threat to the health and well-being of humans and ecosystems on a global scale. Complex national and international health challenges require the promotion of multidisciplinary collaboration and joint, cross-cutting action to address significant gaps in research, integration, and training.
The curriculum is designed to enable the acquisition of skills in various areas of life sciences with a One-Health approach, such as botany, zoology, cytology, histology, developmental biology, ecology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, physiology, microbiology, and plant physiology. Students will acquire preparatory skills for understanding biological disciplines, as well as biomathematics, physics, and statistics, supported by experimental laboratory experiences that will introduce students to the most modern analytical methodologies.
