The Master of Arts in Media Literacy: Audiovisual Culture and Communication focuses on the socio-technological changes of digitalisation and mediatisation, with particular emphasis on education in a digital world. The program examines digitally networked media and audiovisual media cultures and their social and individual significance for education and socialisation.

This research-oriented program combines educational science, media studies, and computer science to develop a comprehensive understanding of media in contemporary society. Media in the Socio-Cultural Context

This module examines the role of media within broader socio-cultural frameworks, analysing how digital and audiovisual media shape cultural practices, identities, and social structures.

Media in Learning and Education Processes

15 ECTS

Focusing on the intersection of media and education, this module covers media didactics, learning environments, and the design and evaluation of media-enriched educational settings.

Media Informatics

10 ECTS

Students acquire technological and computational background knowledge essential for understanding digital media systems, including fundamentals of computer graphics, interactive systems, and visualisation.

Master's Thesis and Colloquium

30 ECTS

The final module involves the independent development and completion of a research-based Master's thesis, demonstrating the student's ability to apply theoretical and methodological knowledge to a chosen topic in media education.
