Msc Biomedical Engineering

The Biomedical Engineering program at the University of Limerick is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of engineering solutions for biological and medical problems. The curriculum spans four to five years, including an eight-month cooperative education placement in the biomedical industry. The first two years focus on foundational engineering disciplines, including anatomy, physiology, fluid mechanics, and materials science. Students then undertake specialized modules in areas such as biocompatibility, tissue engineering, orthopaedic biomechanics, and medical device design. The program emphasizes hands-on projects, group-based learning, and exposure to cutting-edge topics in biomedical engineering. Advanced modules in the later years include medical device evaluation, biomaterials, and computational modeling, preparing students for careers in research, development, and commercialization of medical technologies.
