Global Political Economy MA

Global Political Economy MA develops advanced analytical and critical skills to understand how global economic systems shape social, political, and environmental outcomes. Core modules explore key theories and concepts alongside the functioning of capitalism in practice, examining institutions, markets, and sectors across both the Global South and North.

The programme emphasises interdisciplinary perspectives, drawing on insights from international relations, development, sociology, public health, and anthropology. You will analyse real-world issues such as inequality, climate change, labour conditions, and economic instability, using data from international and business sources to support critical evaluation.

Teaching combines lectures, seminars, workshops, and experiential learning, with opportunities to engage in case studies and collaborative projects linked to real-world stakeholders. You will also benefit from external seminars featuring experts working on global challenges.

Assessment includes essays, projects, and group work, designed to reflect practical applications of political economy. The course culminates in a dissertation, allowing you to independently investigate a topic of your choice and preparing you for careers in policy, research, international organisations, or further academic study.
