The University of Leeds is one of the largest and most prestigious higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1904 by Royal Charter from King Edward VII, the university is a founding member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and is consistently ranked in the world's top 100.
The university's origins trace back to the 19th century with the founding of the Leeds School of Medicine in 1831 and the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874.
