Film, Photography and Media BA
University of Leeds, United Kingdom
In Year 1, students build foundational academic and practical skills, learning screenwriting, camera work, editing and photography alongside film history, theory and media research.
In Year 2, students develop their creative and technical abilities through projects such as short film production, while taking further modules in photography and cinema. They also begin to specialise through optional modules in areas like motion graphics, genre studies and media technology.
In Year 3, students choose from advanced topics such as audience research, mobile media and documentary journalism, and may complete a short work placement. The degree culminates in a major independent project, which could include a film, script, photography portfolio or dissertation.
Teaching combines lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical classes, supported by independent study. Assessment includes production work, group projects, presentations, essays and exams, developing both creative and analytical skills for media careers.
