Cancer Biology MRes

You’ll build a strong foundation in cancer biology through Introduction to Cancer and its Management, exploring the molecular and cellular processes that regulate normal cell growth and how their disruption leads to cancer. You’ll examine key oncological mechanisms and gain a deeper understanding of disease development and progression.

Research Methods develops your knowledge of modern scientific approaches, equipping you with essential skills in experimental design, data analysis and scientific communication. You’ll also gain transferable skills in planning, managing and presenting research, preparing you for careers in clinical and laboratory settings.

In the Research Proposal module, you’ll design your own independent project, defining objectives, methodology and scope within realistic time and resource constraints. You’ll work closely with a supervisor to refine your ideas and develop a viable research plan.

The MRes Research Project is the core of the programme, where you’ll carry out an in-depth laboratory-based investigation. You’ll plan hypotheses, apply experimental techniques, analyse results and present your findings in the format of a scientific journal article, demonstrating advanced research and critical thinking skills.
