Classical Archaeology and Ancient History MA
Central Area Campus, United Kingdom
The Greek and Roman civilisations are studied from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity and Byzantium. The programme also provides the opportunity to study other ancient peoples and civilisations, such as the Etruscans, the Persians, and the Carthaginians. An understanding of Graeco-Roman society is gained within its geographical context through the analysis and evaluation of texts, works of art, artefacts, archaeological sites, and other material evidence. Practical skills in excavation are acquired as part of the curriculum. Classics at Edinburgh offers one of the widest choices of subjects and approaches of any university in the UK, supported by one of the largest groups of classics-focused academics in the country, with around 30 members of staff covering a variety of research interests.
